Any hay bales remaining in state highway ditches must be removed by the end of the day today (Oct. 1).
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says hay remaining in highway ditches after today is illegal and the department will remove– or authorize the removal of– any still in the public right of way.
Anyone wanting to claim ownership of illegal bales must obtain a permit from the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Those permits are issued on a first-come first-served basis.
Permits are available at Department of Transportation area offices in: Pierre, Winner, Mobridge, Aberdeen, Huron, Mitchell, Watertown, Sioux Falls, Yankton, Belle Fourche, Custer and Rapid City).
