Corey Dane was born on August 27, 1989, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Deloria Straight Head and Roland Roach Sr. He was the youngest child and only son, following his sisters Natasha, Kaylene, and Charla. He had a best friend named Katie, and they stayed close friends throughout his childhood. Corey attended school in Dupree during his early years, then went to Takini School for grade school, and later moved to Cheyenne Eagle Butte for high school, where he played basketball and graduated with the Class of 2007.
From the moment he entered this world, Corey was deeply loved and cherished by his family. Being 12 years younger than his next sibling and the only baby boy, he was truly doted on. His big sisters always made sure he was well cared for while growing up. One aunt and uncle lovingly called him their “miracle baby” from the time they first learned about him. Throughout his life, his many uncles stepped in as father figures, teaching him how to hunt, fish, and play softball, basketball, and golf.
Corey became a father in 2011 with the birth of his first son, Elijah Wade. He was later blessed with twin sons, Noah Steve and Amar’e Dane, and the baby of the family, Kyrie King. He was not only a devoted father to his own children but also a father figure to his nieces and nephews, helping his sisters care for their children. Corey also became the main caretaker for his mother until her passing, a loss that left him brokenhearted. Corey always wore a big smile and greeted everyone he knew, acknowledging them no matter the circumstances. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and carried deep love and respect for everyone he met. He loved basketball and softball and joined tournaments whenever he could. You could often find him at the Indian Courts or Legends Square on Main Street, playing the sport he loved.
Corey will be greatly missed and remembered by his children: Elijah Wade, Noah Steve, Amar’e Dane and Kyrie King; sisters: Natasha West-Blue Arm, Kaylene Blue Arm and Charla Straight Head; nieces, Courtney Dee and Cadence Marie; nephews: Shanden, Josiah, Jonah, Shaun, RJ, Marcelino, Dathan, Jason, Daniel, Jaydon; grandchildren: Dazeiah, Dre’syn, Dae’leigh, Christopher and Canku; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and all who he loved and those who loved him.
He was joyously greeting in the spirit world by those who preceded him: mother, Deloria Faye Straight Head; father, Roland Roach Sr.; grandmother, Victoria Mildred Laclaire; grandpa, Leroy Laclaire; aunties, Anita Washburn and Josie Laclaire; uncles/dads, Darryl Laclaire and Leon Veaux; nephew, Elijah Thomas; nieces, Jozee Blair and J’lee Shaden; cousins: Tyson Jace, Vincent Leroy, Tyson Beau, Talon Gerard; and those who have passed away we may not have mentioned.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Corey’s arrangements.
