Lonnie Dan Perman was born on July 20, 1959, in Mobridge, SD, to Wayne and Carol (Casey) Perman. He grew up in the rural Glenham area with four sisters and four brothers: Cindy, Wayne, Pamela, Lacey, Sandra, Clint, Layne, and Tanya, before settling in Glenham. He grew up living on his grandparents’ farm, riding horses, milking cows, and being chased by the chickens. He attended Glenham School apart from the two and a half years, when he was at a country school. He graduated from Glenham High School in 1977.
Lonnie married his high school sweetheart, Charlene Fiedler, on May 10, 1980. He was blessed with two sons, Justin and Daniel, and two granddaughters, Kaitlynn (KK) and Alexis (Poopsie).
Right out of high school, Lonnie was a driver for several companies before he bought his own truck and established Perman Trucking in 1983. In forty-plus years of trucking, he hauled cattle, grain, hay, and the occasional non-traditional loads. Even when he was no longer able to drive his truck, he was the dispatcher and mentor to his eldest son, Justin, and other young truckers.
Lonnie was an active member of the community. He served as a volunteer member of the Glenham Fire Department and Town Council for multiple years.
The only thing louder than his voice was his kindness. He was always willing to help others and expected nothing in return. He enjoyed spending time with his family and giving them unique nicknames. Everyone who knew him knew he had a great sense of humor and loved giving them a hard time.
In their free time, Lonnie and Charlene enjoyed riding their motorcycle. They enjoyed their yearly trips to the Black Hills, riding with long-time friends Arnie and Patty Roebuck. They also enjoyed their occasional trips to Arizona over the past few years, visiting their cactus buddies.
Lonnie is survived by his wife Charlene of 45 years; 2 sons, Justin Perman of Glenham, Daniel (Gina) Perman of Glenham; 2 granddaughters, Kaitlynn and Alexis Perman of Glenham; 4 sisters Cindy Larson of Hettinger, ND, Pamela (James) Bieber of Mobridge, Sandra (Tim) Ackerman of Gettysburg, Tanya Perman of Sioux Falls; 4 brothers Wayne Perman of Glenham, Lacey (Lisa) Perman of Glenham, Clint (Brenda) Perman of Selby, Layne (Kendra) Perman of Glenham; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews. Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Carol Perman.
