The Walworth County Commission has accepted the resignation of State’s Attorney Sarah Malsom at their regular meeting on Wednesday, August 8th. Malsom has accepted a position with a private law practice.
Malsom’s last day will be August 14th.
The commissioners approved the hiring of Dan Gels as the new Walworth County State’s Attorney, effective August 14th at 5pm.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan is tabling to next year the 300th Avenue project. Hannan said he has not yet received the core samples, and has also been told by the company in charge of road grinding and injecting that the County will not be on their work schedule until 2027. Hannan said he can spend the rest of the year focusing on other projects.
Assessor
For the Walworth County Assessor’s office the commissioners approved the surplus of a 2012 Chevy Tahoe that has around 260,000 miles on it and is no longer reliable. They tabled to the next meeting acting on the purchase of a different SUV.
Also at the meeting, the commissioners:
- Tabled acting on a hunting preserve liquor license for Rieger Creek LLC until it has been published;
- Approved the hiring of Jose Diaz as full-time employee and Transport Correctional Officer in the Sheriff’s department;
- Approved the quote of $9,027.30 from Miliken Electric for wiring of the new Landfill building.
- Approved changing the meeting date in September from the 16th to the 23rd so department heads can attend the South Dakota Association of County Official Convention in Sioux Falls;
- Approved writing a letter of support for the Lake Hiddenwood Foundation’s efforts in securing a grant to help restore the lake.
- Budget discussion continued.
