Earlier this morning, friends, family teammates and coaches gathered to watch one of the Pierre Governors best wrestlers in their program’s history, Alex Oedekoven, sign to continue his wrestling career at the colegiate level. Oedekoven, a state champion, will be taking his talents to one of the top Division II wrestling programs in Northern State next year.

Oedekoven ended his high school career second on the list of all-time wins for Pierre Governor wrestlers, capping it off with a championship in the 144-po0und weight class. He was also a two-time state runner-up in his freshman and junior seasons while ending with an incredibly impressive career record of 203-38. Here’s Alex’s thoughts on his high school career, his legacy and what’s to come at Northern next year:
Former Northern State wrestler and one of Alex’s coaches, Shawn Lewis, had this to say about Oedekoven: “Northern is going to get a top notch person in Alex Oedekoven. He works hard, does things right and loves the sport of wrestling. He is a complete package for a college coach and program with how he operates on and off the mat. Alex will provide Northern with his leadership, work ethic and passion for winning. It’s a great fit both academically and athletically.”
