The Pierre Governor softball team spotted Aberdeen Central a pair of 3-run leads early on, but the bats came to life late to lead them to an eventual 11-6 victory Tuesday afternoon at Riggs Field. The Eagle bats were hot early as they plated three runs in each of the first two innings. The Govs were able to score three of their own in the first inning without a hit, but the Eagles maintained a 6-3 lead through three innings. Pierre then scored a run in the fourth inning, plus three more in the fifth to take their first lead, 7-6, before adding four insurance runs in the sixth to put the game away. Ava Nelson started the game in the pitching circle for Pierre, but Charlie Hull pitched the final six innings to get the win in relief. Hull limited the Eagles to just two hits in the last five frames and struck out 11 along the way. Nelson went 2-2 at the plate and walked twice, scoring two runs, while Taryn Spruill went 3-4, driving in a pair of runs and also scoring twice. Alivia Heymans had 3 RBI’s to help the cause as well. Pierre improves to 4-2 with the win, as they head out west to take on Rapid City Stevens on Thursday before a Saturday trip to Sioux Falls for matchups against O’Gorman and Tea Area.
