Cheyanne Gorbet, age 34, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at IHS Hospital in Fort Yates, North Dakota. She was born to Shelly White and Paul Gorbet in Greenview, California, on September 13, 1991. At the age of two, Cheyanne moved to Fort Yates, North Dakota, where she spent her formative years.
Cheyanne attended schools in Fort Yates and graduated from Standing Rock Community School in May 2013. During her school years, she gained valuable work experience at the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Head Start in Fort Yates, where she enjoyed working with children and making a positive impact.
In February 2021, Cheyanne relocated to Devils Lake, North Dakota. On August 3, 2025, she welcomed her beloved son, Lucas James Small, who was the light of her life. Cheyanne was fiercely dedicated to Lucas and cherished every moment with him. She returned to Fort Yates in February and lived with her mother, Shelly White, until her passing.
Cheyanne was a lively and compassionate individual who enjoyed connecting with others through social media, especially Facebook. She loved animals, taking walks, going to the movies, and sharing a good laugh. Her life was dedicated to her son, Lucas, and her love for him was unwavering.
She is survived by her mother, Shelly White; father, Paul Gorbet; grandfather, Roger Condon; second mother, Lynette Ireland (Neddie); siblings, Andrew Gorbet, Dakota Gorbet, and Rhayne Ireland; uncles, Don Kevin White, James White, Bill (Lori) Condon, Travis (Desiree) Condon, Brently Condon; aunts, Rhonda White, Kathy Bailey, Mary (Randy) Medenwald, and Teresa Harrison; her special family friend, Stephanie Miner; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Alberta Condon; paternal grandfather, Donald White; and uncles Richard White and Richard Harrison.
Funeral services will be officiated by Father Jolly from St. Peter Catholic Church The funeral will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11 AM with burial to follow at the church cemetery. A meal and fellowship will be held at the AJ Agard Building in Fort Yates following the burial.
Cheyanne’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her.
