Southeast Technical College is updating two information technology programs for fall 2026 to better align with the needs of today’s rapidly changing technology industry and provide students with more flexible pathways to completion.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Programming will become Software Development, while the Software Support Specialist diploma program will become App Development.
The updated program names and curriculum reflect STC’s commitment to practical, career-focused education that prepares students for in-demand technology careers. Both programs will continue to emphasize hands-on learning, collaboration and real-world application, helping graduates build the skills needed to contribute in the workplace.
STC is also adding a spring start option for both programs. The expanded schedule is especially helpful for students who are changing majors, transferring from another college or returning to coursework after stepping away. The spring start allows students to begin program classes sooner and work with academic advising to develop a plan that supports their goals.
“With the new spring start, students have more options in mapping out their education,” said instructor Andrew Honey. “If a student needs to retake a course or adjust their plan, they may no longer have to wait until the next fall to get back on track. This added flexibility helps students keep moving forward.”
The refreshed Software Development AAS also includes curriculum updates designed to keep pace with industry trends.
“In the second year, we’ve added an Artificial Intelligence course that teaches students how to program an AI agent and engineer prompts,” said instructor Maria de Zuviria Padlock. “These are critical skills employers are looking for right now, and our students will graduate with hands-on experience in this emerging area.”
While sample plans provide a starting point for students, each student’s path may look different depending on transfer credits, prior coursework, career goals and individual needs.
