Unofficial results have Greg Kenzy winning the race for mayor of Fort Pierre in Tuesday’s (June 2, 2026) election. Kenzy received 514 votes to incumbent Mayor Gloria Hanson’s 447 votes.
In the Fort Pierre City Council Ward I election, there’s a five vote margin, so a recount is possible. Unofficially, Kevin Tiger defeated incumbent Larry Cronin 149 votes to 144 votes. In the Fort Pierre City Council Ward III election, the unofficial vote totals show Kristin Gabriel with 230 votes to beat incumbent Rick Cronin who received 160 votes.
With Kenzy moving to the mayor’s position, that will leave his current Ward I Alderman seat vacant. According to Fort Pierre City Charter, to fill that opening, “The Mayor shall fill a vacancy in the office of City Council for the remainder of the unexpired term by appointment of a qualified person with approval by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Council. Such vote shall be by secret ballot.”
The Fort Pierre election vote totals will become official after they are canvassed by the local election board. If all results are confirmed, the winners will all take the oath of office at the Fort Pierre City Council’s meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026.
