On April 5, 1981, our beloved daughter, mother, sister and relative, Antonia Bernice (Tonie) Eagleshield, was born to Fritz Jr and Patti (Good Eagle) Eagleshield, in Bismarck, ND. She was the 3rd youngest of 7 children.
Tonie attended school in McLaughlin from Head Start through Jr. High. She then transferred up to Standing Rock Community High School where she graduated in 2000. Tonie then went on to further her education at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, ND. In 2005, she graduated with her AAS and Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
In 2001, Tonie brought her first bundle of joy into the world. She would name him Tristan and he would break her into motherhood. In 2002, she would bring her next blessing, Kylion, to keep Tristan company. Then followed by her 3rd blessing Boyd, Jr., born in 2003. Then her baby girl Brittney blessed this little family in 2005. A few years later Adam came to be a part of Toni’s life and family. Not soon after she was blessed with two more baby girls Niya & Teya. She has taken so many under her wing in this life and let them be an important part of her life, as she had that motherly love that shined so bright.
Tonie was a hard worker who always showed dedication. She put her heart into her jobs and tasks in life. She worked for Bear Soldier Bingo Hall, Cenex, Standing Rock CPS, Grand River Casino, Standing Rock Early Childhood Tracking, and most recently the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand River Area as the Culture Coordinator.
Between her cheering on her children in sports and life and working her jobs, she found time to volunteer. She was always so quick to lend a hand at various functions. She volunteered at many community events, fundraiser efforts for youth basketball teams, and for the Boys and Girls Club. She would deliver food bags to the districts on Standing Rock. One of her kind hearted gestures of giving was when she organized the Eagleshield Breakfast back in 1995 that was served at the Monument Celebration on Saturday mornings in memory of her Grandpa Wallace Eagleshield. As years went by, she and the family lost loved ones Toni would add their name to her list to honor their memory. When it came to honoring veterans or her dad Fritz and the Looking Back-Growler-Jamerson-Little Bear Post 239 she would help in any way possible.
She gave this world her love, generosity, and compassion, through her many acts of kindness and love. She made sure the children were loved, cared for, and felt important. She took the meaning of family to heart. You could begin as her friend and the more you were in her life; you were her family. From the moment she met you, she made you feel loved, accepted and cherished. It didn’t matter if you spent a couple minutes or the day with her, you knew you were loved. Our world definitely lost a bright light when our Tonie journeyed on. She will be missed tremendously.
