If you follow Pierre Governor soccer, Jasmine Jost and Lexie Hillmer are names you hear early and often during broadcasts on River 92.7 and DRGnews.com. Respectively, they both played completely separate, yet equally important roles for the Govs over the past couple of seasons. Hillmer, a junior, is best known for her innate ball-control paired with a sniper-like ability to put pressure on opposing keepers. On the flip-side, Jost’s production comes in the middle of the pitch where she brings a physicality that is not often seen on many other squads. Jost will hassle, annoy and rattle opposing players with her persistent effort and physical play. That may sound like a slight to Jost, but she prefers to be viewed as the type of player who plays with a chip on her shoulder. Opposing styles, but equally important and both are players that coaches have said teams absolutely need.
Both players have made a name for themselves in Class AA play, but added a unique and impressive attribute to their resume on the second weekend of July. Both played with the Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club and are in the National Premiere League (NPL) The NPL consists of 18 leagues across the country, hundreds of clubs, and thousands of teams. Jost, who played with the U19 squad and Hillmer who played for the U16 team both went 5-0 in the Gold Division playing against teams across the country from Pennsylvania, Illinois, South Carolina, Texas, and California. With their undefeated records, they were both crowned National Champions in their respective groups on July 11th at the national tournament in Denver.
Jost and her U19 team scored 23 goals throughout the tournament while only allowing six to secure their second straight championship. Jost was an integral part of the success and will use this as momentum as she heads to continuing her soccer career at Northern State this fall.
Hillmer and the U16 NPL team posted similar numbers, scoring 25 goals and allowing just 7. Hillmer earned All-Tournament team honors for her play and luckily for the Governors, will be returning for her junior season with Pierre coming up in August.
