Starting Tuesday (July 21, 2026), a section of S. Harrison Avenue in Pierre will be closed to allow for construction work at the River Cities Public Transit building site.
S. Harrison will be closed from Wells Avenue (also US 14/83) to approximately 50 feet north of the Sioux Avenue intersection. The work is scheduled to take three weeks. Detour signing is in place to direct commuters around the work zone.
People driving heavy trucks, semis and other large vehicles are encouraged to use Lowell Avenue to access businesses along East Dakota Avenue during the closure. This recommended route will provide access to businesses such as:
- Cone Ag Inc.
- Hansine Ranch
- Midwest Cooperative Grain Elevator and Grain Handling Facility
- Van Diest Supply Co.
Using Lowell Place will help maintain access to these businesses while allowing construction crews to safely and efficiently complete the project.
The prime contractor for the project is Arex construction from Pierre.
