PIERRE, SD – Jessica Ann Peterson (Meuchel), 44, passed away on July 13th, 2026 at home in Pierre, South Dakota.
She was born on July 3rd, 1982 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Barbara Jones (Zeller) and Bernard Meuchel. Jessica was the eldest child and a sister to Robert & Timothy Meuchel and to Christopher Jones. She attended several schools growing up as she lived in Bismarck ND, Rapid City & Box Elder SD, and Grand Junction CO before ultimately moving to Pierre SD in 2001 and graduating from T.F. Riggs High School in 2006.
Jessica met Erin Peterson in 2002. They got married and had their first child, Daniel (born Eleanor) in 2006. Their second child, Easton, was born in 2015. Jessica worked at JCPenney for 10 years and held a few other jobs until her health no longer allowed her to work. She loved talking to new people, and was always curious about the world & how things work. She loved mysteries, sci-fi, and Star Trek most of all. Much of Jessica’s free time was spent finding a new project, crafting or being with her children. She was very generous, helping anyone she met when the opportunity arose and she opened her home numerous times to her mom, siblings and friends when they needed a place to stay. The world is much quieter in her absence; we will miss those goofy faces of hers until we meet again.
Jessica is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Marl & Irene Zeller, paternal grandparents Alfonse & Mary Meuchel, her aunt Brenda Zeller-Humann, and her stepfather Buck Jones. She is survived by her husband Erin of Pierre SD, her parents, Barb of Pierre SD & Bernie (Glory) of Bismarck ND, her in-laws Gloria & Eldon Peterson, her brothers Tim (Stacey) and Robert of Bismarck ND and Chris of Appleton WI, and her children, Dani and Easton of Pierre SD.
Memorial service will be 11:00AM on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, South Dakota. Following the service the family extends an invitation for everyone to join them for a luncheon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Donations made in her name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and 988 Crisis Hotline are greatly appreciated.
