PIERRE, SD – Darrel Reinke, 77, of Pierre, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm-6:00pm on Tuesday, July 28th at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre with a 6:00pm prayer service. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 29th at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre. Isburg Funeral Chapel has been placed in care of the arrangements.
Darrel was born June 1, 1949, in Hendricks, Minnesota. He grew up in Verdi, Minnesota, until 1961, when his family moved to Elkton, South Dakota. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1967 as valedictorian, having played football, basketball, and fast-pitch softball, served as both junior and senior class president, and performed in the junior and senior class plays.
He went on to South Dakota State University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in mathematics, a teaching minor, and a coaching certificate. He returned to Verdi, Minnesota, to teach math and coach, and in 1979 earned his master’s degree in educational administration from SDSU. He then served as high school principal in Henry, South Dakota, before moving to Pierre for a sales position with Motorola Communications.
Darrel entered the investment advisory business in 1986 and ultimately founded his own investment management firm, where he spent 40 years building lasting relationships with his clients. His son Brad joined him as a partner in 1996, and Bob Gray has been his partner for the past 21 years.
Deeply invested in his community, Darrel served as president of the Pierre Chamber of Commerce and on the board of directors of the Pierre Economic Development Corporation. His true passion revolved around hunting, fishing, and wildlife preservation. He was a longtime supporter of Ducks Unlimited, serving as chairman at both the local and state levels. He was also a longtime youth baseball and basketball coach and official, giving countless hours to the young athletes of his community.
Above all, Darrel was devoted to his family. He held his wife, Wendy, in very high regard, describing her as the most loving, caring, and kind individual he had ever known.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Audrey, as well as his sister, Donna Magnus.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Wendy Reinke; his son, Bradley Reinke, and his wife, Angie; his daughter, Michelle Caldwell, and her husband, Cade; his grandchildren, Shay, Max, Maddie, Reagan, Lainey, and Coen; his great-grandchildren, Cecelia (Cece) and Cam; his sister, Bev Cucci; his brothers-in-law, Tony (Rose), Randy (Nicole), Dave (Cindy), and Kelly (Natalie) Meyer; and his nephews, Ryan Magnus, Kelly Hourscht, and Brian Hourscht.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ducks Unlimited or TF Riggs Booster Club.
