An 18 year old woman from Wall died and a 19 year old man from Pierre was injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning (Aug. 3, 2026) near Scenic, South Dakota.
Names of the those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates the woman was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Bombing Range Road when the vehicle left the roadway. She attempted to correct and lost control of the vehicle, sending it into a roll.
The woman sustained fatal injuries. The male passenger, who is from Pierre, was taken to a Rapid City hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries. Neither person was wearing a seat belt.
The investigation is ongoing.
