Blake Mehlhaff, 63, Eureka, SD, died Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the Eureka Reformed Church led by Pastor James Grossmann. Pianist will be Bonnie Mehlhaff and the congregation will sing “Abide with Me” and “Amazing Grace”. Ushers will be James Fischer and Michael Neuharth. Interment follows at the Eureka Cemetery. Blake’s funeral will be livestreamed on the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page and be available at this website Friday night.
Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at Lien-Straub Chapel.
Blake Alvin Mehlhaff, son of Deloris (Dockter) and Allan Mehlhaff, was born February 3, 1957 at Eureka. He was brought up on the Mehlhaff farm five miles SE of Eureka. He attended Eureka Public School, graduating with the EHS Class of 1975. He furthered his education at Lake Area Vocational Technical School in Watertown, SD where he completed the two-year Diesel Mechanics course. Blake returned to Eureka where he was employed as a mechanic at Hauck Implement. Blake married Jackie Goeshel at Long Lake on May 19, 1979. They settled on the farm that Blake was raised on. Blake continued doing mechanic work on the farm and also farmed full time until very recently when his health would no longer allow. He was a lifelong member of Eureka Reformed Church and served as a Church trustee. His hobbies included bowling, playing pinochle, and fishing.
Blake is survived by his mother, Deloris; Jackie, his wife of 41 years; two sons—Tim (Brooke Graves) Mehlhaff and Travis (Lisa) Mehlhaff all of Eureka; two brothers—Craig (Mary) Mehlhaff of Akaska, SD and Earl (Letty) Mehlhaff of Eureka; one sister, Francie (Brian) Ingerson, of Eureka; his grandson, Riggins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allan, on December 30, 1997.
Casketbearers will be Dennis Walker, Keith Mehlhaff, Keith Roberts, and Scott Strobel of Eureka; Glenn Mehlhaff of Hartford, SD; and Gordon Bertsch of Watertown.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka.
