HARRISBURG, SD  – William “Bill” Lengkeek, 78 of Harrisburg, SD and formerly of Presho, SD died Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be from 5:30PM – 7:30PM on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre, SD. A memorial service will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Isburg Funeral Chapel with burial at a later date.

William (Bill) Charles Lengkeek Billy, as he was known to his family, was born in Sioux Falls, SD, on March 19, 1948 to William (Bill) and Helen (Davis) Lengkeek. He was the 4th child in the family of 9. Most of his school years the family lived in Blunt, SD. He attended school there and graduated from Blunt High School in 1966.
Bill married Sharon Tassler in 1971, they lived various places while Bill worked on road construction crews across central and western South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa. He was exceptional at operating any piece of heavy equipment and could fix anything that broke on his equipment. During this time not only was he an operator, he was also foreman or Superintendent for various companies.
His son, Cody, was born in 1982 while living in Rapid City. After his birth Bill and Sharon decided to change their lifestyle and moved to Fort Pierre, as Bill was working with Gloe Construction based in Fort Pierre. In 1986 he took a job as the Lyman County Highway Superintendent and the family moved to Kennebec then shortly after moved to Presho. Bill remained as Lyman County Highway Superintendent and Weed Supervisor until his retirement after 26 years. He prided himself on keeping up the roads in Lyman County and keeping the equipment in tip top shape. After retirement Bill ran for County commissioner which he served 4 years. He also worked as the fuel and propane man for Burke Oil after retirement delivering fuel and propane across central South Dakota.
He kept busy from dusk till dawn even after retirement with his shop on the north end of Presho. Where he repaired lawn mowers, automobiles, bicycles, and anything else people showed up for him to tinker on. Bill enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, car shopping, baking cookies, camping and watching car races when he wasn’t working or tinkering on stuff. One of his greatest enjoyments was his grandson Dominick that he spoiled all the time. Bill and Dominick always had to go to the gas station to get their donuts or pizza. Bill and Sharon would often take Dominick driving around Presho or out in the country just to see what adventures they could go on.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Harrisburg, SD, his son, Cody also of Harrisburg and grandson, Dominic Lengkeek. He is also survived by one brother, Keith (Kathy) of Rapid City, 3 sisters, Janet Doorn of Rapid City, Peggy Kelly (Dean) of Rapid City, and Marilyn Allen (Mike) of Gillette, Wy. He is also survived by one half brother, Peter Lengkeek and one half-sister Lisa Lengkeek both of Ft Thompson, SD and his brother-in-law, Don Tassler of Blunt as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Lengkeek and Helen Lengkeek and one brother, Gary Lengkeek and 3 sisters, Cheryl Beck, Barbara Van Ekeren, and Lynda Grass. He was also preceded in death by his in laws John and Eunice Tassler, brothers in law Doug Tassler, Tom Tassler and Shorty Tassler.
