CHERRY CREEK, SD – Marion Romero, 66, of Cherry Creek, entered the spirit world, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte, SD
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. MDT, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Cherry Creek Gym, Cherry Creek. Burial will follow in the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery, Cherry Creek, South Dakota. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2026, at the gym with a procession from the 2-Mile East of Cherry Creek at 4:00 p.m.
Marion Evangeline Romero was born March 13, 1960, to Delmas Romero Sr. and Belva (Runs After) Romero at the Old Cheyenne Agency. She spent her early years in Kadoka, Wanblee, and the Bull Creek country before attending school in Kadoka. She later attended Red Cloud Indian Boarding School near Pine Ridge and received her GED from OLC in Wanblee.
Marion loved making bread, cooking, and sewing. She especially cherished spending time with her family, particularly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her morning coffee and listening to the local KIPI radio station alongside her companion, Steve Little Shield. Marion could often be found giggling at Facebook videos on her phone, and she loved watching old Western movies.
Marion was deeply loved and respected by her family, friends, and community. She took great pride in being a part of her community and participating in its activities. She especially enjoyed telling stories about her childhood and sharing memories with those around her. She also enjoyed taking long walks and bike rides with Steve.
Marion loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and ability to make people’s day. She had a big heart and was always willing to help others in any way she could. Her kindness, laughter, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marion leaves behind her children: Vivian Red Elk, Timothy Red Elk, Darshann (Justin) Red Elk, Virgil Red Elk Sr, and Calvin Red Elk; her grandchildren: Trelyn, Derek Jr, Dovyn, Lexy, Leah, Damion, Orie Jr, Cory, Chase Chauncey, Willow, Avery, Virgil Jr, Aiden, Aida, Anyah, Aneesa, Kiah, Alisha, Iza, Anthony, Anethia, Jovanna Branlee, J’SavianJ, and CanteC; her many great grandchildren; sisters; Rose & Mabel Romero, June Runs After and Sister Kine; and brothers: Justin, Oliver, & Russell Romero and David Marrowbone.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Delmas & Belva Romero; maternal grandparents: Olney & Rosa (Face) Runs After; paternal grandparents: Susie Romero & Sofie “Sofia” Romero; siblings: Max, Delmas Jr, Florence Tamera, Susie Romero, and Brent Marrow Bone; uncles: David & Levi Runs After; grandchildren: Stephen & Ariya Red Elk; and Aunties Hazel Marrow Bone & Marilyn Runs After.
