One of the more highly anticipated games around the state took place in Presho Friday night between the undefeated Wall Eagles and the one-loss Lyman Raiders. The action did not disappoint
Lyman would take an early lead opening the game with a 12 play, 82 yard drive capped off by a 15-yard Cole Kieffer pass from MJ Diehm to jump out in front 7-0.
Wall would answer back marching the length of the field, and looked like they might walk in to tie it up. However, the Raider defense turned them over on downs at the Lyman 7. It was surgical by both sides as the first quarter didn’t last more than just a few minutes.
Wall gained control with good field position and Tanner Volmer busted one open for a 47-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7.
When Wall looked they might have dug in, Lyman regained the lead on a nice drive that was finished with a 10-yard MJ Diehm run into the endzone. The Raiders would carry the lead 14-7 into half time, poised to pull off the upset.
The Eagles tied the game 4 plays into the third quarter after a 17-yard pass to Shooter Frederick from Tanner Volmer. In all, Wall scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter including two interceptions returned for touchdowns a 33-yard pick-6 by Shooter Frederick. The comeback also included a 60-yard interception return from Teelan Kjerstad.
Lyman was led by MJ Diehm who ran for 2 touchdowns and threw for two more scores while Wall was paced by Tanner Volmer who ran for three TD’s and threw a TD pass.
Wall moves to 4-0 with the win and will host Philip (4-0) at home next Friday for their homecoming game.
Lyman 3-2 travels to Jones County next week on KPLO.
