Monday night saw two teams playing good volleyball clash in Parkview Auditorium between the Lyman Raiders and the hosting Stanley County Buffaloes. Lyman brought in a 9-7 record and Stanley County coming off a convincing four-set win over Gettysburg a few days prior, both teams showed great potential in a five-set match.
Stanley County roared to a 4-0 lead in set one that was quickly matched by a 4-0 run from the Raiders. A back-and-forth first set would end in favor of Lyman by a final of 25-23. It was a stark difference to the start of set two as Lyman took a 7-1 lead and would cruise to a 25-12 set two finish.
When it looked like Lyman might cruise to a three-set sweep, Stanley County showed great poise and was able to rip set three back in another sequence in which both teams traded momentum. Stanley County would outlast a comeback attempt to win set three 25-23 and would ride that wave into set four in which they would take their turn in dominating. While the fourth set was close throughout, the Lady Buffaloes were able to string together a stretch of points towards the end where they would win it 25-18.
Set five, however, belonged to the Lyman Raiders. Brooke Montgomery would open up the final set with a strong run from the service line opening up a 5-0 Lyman lead. Lyman did not look back going on to win the set 15-10, and win the match in five.
Jordyn Scott earned Player of the Game honors with nearly 20 kills and six aces. JoRayah Walker would lead Stanley County in kills with 10.
Lyman improves to 10-7 while the Lady Buffaloes fall to 5-13. Lyman will go on the road tonight and face one of their toughest tests of the year in Kadoka Area while Stanley County will play in a triangular Saturday.
