BROOKINGS, S.D. — Top-ranked Pierre found the end zone on all six of their first-half possessions and went on to defeat Brookings, 42-20, in high school football Friday night. Quarterback Jerren Deal was once again efficient, completing 10 of 13 passes for 172 yards and two scores, while running for two more, including a 40-yarder on the game’s opening drive. Cooper Terwilliger caught six passes for 99 yards and a touchdown and also ran one in from five yards out. Porter Hunsley led the rushing attack with 81 yards and a 25-yard trip to the house, and Latrelle Rodriguez caught a 2-yard scoring pass. The Bobcats scored twice in the second half on passes from Cooper Drawdy to Ezra Eidem, including a 70-yard catch and run on the first play of the second half. The final scoring play came on a 13-yard scamper by special-needs sophomore Beckett Bergstrom, who was then mobbed by his teammates in the end zone. Bergstrom then added the cherry on top by kicking the extra point – a moment that was much bigger than the game itself. A young and injury-riddled team, Brookings will look to close out their season against also winless Aberdeen Central Thursday, while the 8-0 Govs head west to Douglas.
