(Rapid City, SD) — Fire officials in South Dakota are warning homeowners to use caution during ash disposal. They say wood chunks and embers spark multiple fires throughout the state every year from improper disposal.
District Program Manager for South Dakota Wildland Fire Mike Reed says it’s best to clear out ash from wood stoves and fireplaces in a metal bucket and allow it to sit for a few days to cool off. Officials say you should never use cans or bags to dispose of ashes.
