PIERRE – A proposal for how winter sports and activities will be conducted by the South Dakota High School Activities Association is expected by the end of this week.
SDHSAA Executive Director Dr. Dan Swartos said that the changes should be relatively minor, including gymnasts bringing their own chalk instead of there being a common bowl of chalk. Changes primarily will deal with matters around the contest.
For the state football championships, which are set for the Dakota Dome in Vermillion November 12-14, attendance will likely be limited to 35-40 percent capacity. A ticketing system will allow access first for students and families. Where ticket availability may be an issue may be with the 11AA and 11AAA championship games. There will also be more time between games.
For the volleyball championships, there likely will be more sessions scheduled and more time between sessions. Volleyball’s state tournaments are scheduled for November 19-21 in Brookings (AA), Watertown (A) and Huron (B).
