Marvin Bertsch, age 89, of Spearfish, SD, formerly of McIntosh and Isabel, SD, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center at Ft. Meade, SD.

Funeral services for Marvin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Grace Fellowship Church 524 W Jackson Blvd, Spearfish, SD, in Spearfish. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Chance Cemetery south of Meadow, SD. Full military honors will be afforded at the funeral and graveside service. We ask everyone attending the funeral to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all on Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Grace Fellowship Church 524 W Jackson Blvd in Spearfish, SD. We ask that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced.

Marvin was born in Isabel South Dakota on March 17, 1931. He worked on several farms in the area until he was drafted into the army in 1952. After he came home from the service he attended Molar Barber college in Fargo North Dakota and set up his shop in Isabel South Dakota.

Marvin married the love of his life Donna Miles Bertsch on January 5, 1958 in Bison, South Dakota. In this union became five children Edith and Janet Doan, Kim Bertsch, Tammy Bertsch and Korbyn Scott Bertsch. The family moved to McIntosh South Dakota in 1966 Where he opened another barbershop. Marvin barbered in both of those cities for over 50 years.

Marvin was active in the American Legion for over 60 years and so enjoyed working with the veterans. In McIntosh he was the Commander of the American Legion post, veteran service officer for many years, as well as the mayor of McIntosh.

When Marvin and his wife retired and moved to Spearfish South Dakota in 2013, he was an active member in the American Legion Post there. He enjoyed visiting with veterans in the facilities there as well as attending numerous legion conventions and meetings.

In his spare time he loved spending time with family and so enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his flowers as that was a special little hobby for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emmanuel and Bertha Bertsch. His son Kim daughter Janet, Son Korry brother Ted brother Calvin sister Doris and sister Lorraine.

He is survived by his wife Donna Miles Bertsch; his daughter Tammy and daughter Edith (Wayne) Grefsrud; his sister Monie Motis; grandchildren Rick, Korbyn, Evan, Monica, Magazu, Wakanyan, Derek, Niki, Joshua, Christa, Dana and Denise.

Marvin was a remarkable man. He was well known in his communities of McIntosh, Isabel and Spearfish.

He will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
