Pauline grew up in Old Agency, Eagle Butte, and the Bear Creek community. She attended school in Eagle Butte and got her GED. As soon as she raised her children she made education her priority. While working she was going college. Pauline finished out strong getting her Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education and continued to teach the children of Eagle Butte. That was in her heart to be a teacher. She is always known as Teacher Pauline to many. She would message her past co-workers and colleagues that she kept in touch with whom are now teachers. She loved finding ideas, crafts, and activities while browsing online to pass onto them for their classrooms to enjoy. And was continuously giving ideas to her recent coworkers for the announcement boards and other imaginative ideas she had for her place of work.
Pauline was proud to be the first person from her family to earn a Bachelor degree, and always pushed her children to do the same.
She met the love of her life Dennis C. Cook in 1977. They got married in 1979. They spent 43 strong years together. With this union they had 5 children. Marlarae D. Cook of Rapid City SD, Charles D. Cook (Cameo) of Eagle Butte SD, Marlene E. Cook of Bismarck ND, Melissa A. Arocho (Angel) of Bismarck ND, Megan D. Cook (Beau) of Lantry, SD.
She also has her 2 granddaughters that she raised as her own Ebony Cook of Rapid City SD, Dre’Mys Cook of Eagle Butte SD, 1 grandson Devon J. Traversie of Lantry SD, 1 great grandchild she took part in raising Jupiter N. Dupris. She always wanted to make sure her “3 birds” are ok and going to be looked after, her “3 birds” are Devon, Essence and Jupiter.
Now she will be watching over all of her grandchildren from the stars. She loved them all so much and always took the chance to visit every moment she could – Chloe, Robinn Jr., Zoey, Bella, Di’Ennis, Dion Jr., Ma’Caileah, Zayden, Azaylen, Angel Jr., 1 arriving in May 2021, Essence, Charles Jr., Cole, Briseis, Jupiter, Julius, and Jax’ton.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandkids and her husband.
Mom will be greatly missed by everyone she has met or had an impact on. She always prepared us for this day when she found out her cancer has come back. She had fought breast cancer and beat it once, but couple years later in 2018 cancer returned in her bones this time. She survived a lot longer than the doctors had given her, she waited for dad to return home as it hit her even harder when he was gone in the hospital. She stayed with us a lot longer than even herself expected. She was a strong survivor, and she will always be known as a strong woman, for she instilled that in her children. “Never give up and keep going and get your education!!”
Casket bearers- Charles Cook, Devon Traversie, Angel Arocho, Veldon Hollow Horn, Cal Howard, Farrell Chasing Hawk, Cody Yellow, Galen Howard.
Honorary Bearers will be all Pauline’s family, friends, and co-workers. Thank you for being part of her life, she loved you all and she will be dearly missed.
