Hollie Ann Wiest was born on June 3rd, 1954, to Floyd & Lil (Bickel) Vilhauer in Mobridge, SD. Hollie was raised in Mobridge where she attended elementary school, graduating from Mobridge High School.
On December 29, 1973 she married Bill Wiest at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge. The couple made their home in Mobridge where they raised two sons, B.J. and Justin.
Most of the Hollie’s work life was spent in office administration. She began her career working for Larry Norby in the office and sales. Later moving to B&R Motors as the Office Manager. She enjoyed her co-workers and customers and fit in whether it was the showroom or with the mechanics in the shop. Her most rewarding job was the Family Practice Clinic where she worked the front desk along with any other duties she was assigned. Hollie often laughed as Dr. Collins would give her money to buy gifts for the staff. She always said she picked out her own Secretary’s Day and Birthday gifts. She loved the interaction with the patients and took pride in getting to personally know each of them. At the clinic she loved her coworkers, building lifelong friendships. The girls from the clinic stayed in touch and always took care of her.
Family was everything for Hollie and she cherished the gatherings with all the Vilhauers and Naasz. Her fondest memories were the overnight stays at her Grandma Vilhauers with her cousins.
Hollie loved being a Mom. She never missed a baseball game and was the loudest in the crowd. Her home was always open. She treated BJ’s and Justin’s closest friends as sons of her own, they all called her mom.
Hollie’s passion was cooking. She always said, “when I got married, I could not even boil water.” She gave credit to Aunt Ione who took her under her wing and taught her most of her secrets (Ione never shared her potato salad recipe though). Hollie always cooked big meals and was humble in her skills but took pride in mastering her family’s traditional German dishes. She loved sharing her recipes and secrets with anyone who would ask.
Hollie is survived by her husband of nearly 47 years, Bill; Son, B.J. (Stacy) Wiest and Granddaughter Tessa Wiest of Aberdeen, SD; Son Justin (Tara) Wiest and Grandson Brantley Wiest of Mobridge, SD; Sister Pam (Kerry) Belden of Green Bay, WI; Brother Dean (Michelle) Vilhauer of Aberdeen, SD; Brother Mitch Vilhauer of Groton, SD; & Sister Lynnette Vilhauer of Aberdeen, SD; and many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Lil Vilhauer.
