Thelma R. Hoff, 87, Eureka, SD, died Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Thelma Rebecca Bertsch, daughter of Emilia (Breitling) and Carl Bertsch, was born June 14, 1933 at Greenway, SD. At age 11 she moved with her family into Eureka. She received her formal education at the Eureka Public School, graduating with the EHS Class of 1951. Thelma marred Clarence Hoff at First Baptist Church in Eureka on February 17, 1957. She and Clarence settled in Eureka where Thelma was employed at Northwest GF Mutual Insurance Company for over 50 years. She also kept busy tending to her daughter, Roberta. Clarence died July 4, 2007 and Thelma lived in Eureka the rest of her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and was an avid reader who had Bible notes all over her house.
Thelma is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Clarence, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Roberta, on December 27, 2014; five brothers—Art (Helen), Alvin C. (Tillie) Leo (Faye), Enoch (Esther), and Ted (Lorraine); and four sisters—Ruth (Alan) Haas, Esther (Leon) Haas, Ida (Eugene) Joachim, and Ida (in infancy).
Masks are required at the Church.
Thelma’s funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page and be available Sunday night at this website.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Eureka, led by Rev. Pat Russell and Pastor Perry Schnabel. Pianist will be niece Bonnie Mehlhaff and the congregation will sing “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. Niece Donna Bratland will sing “No Tears in Heaven” and “I’m Home”. Usher will be Cliff Berreth. Interment follows at the Eureka Cemetery.
Visitation commences 1:00 PM Friday at the Church.
Honorary bearers will be Thelma’s nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers will be Barry Lapp and Jim Jones of Eureka; Tim Joachim of Fargo, ND; Darwin Fischer of Ashley, ND; Steve Koch of Faulkton, SD; and Monte Bertsch of Sioux Falls, SD.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka.
