Mass of Christian Burial for Angeline J. Vermillion Montclair age 82 of Fort Yates, ND will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fort Yates, ND. Interment will be at 1:00 PM at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Kenel, SD. Angeline passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Lincoln, ND.
Angeline Josephine Vermillion-Montclair (Cekiyupewin- Pray To Her) was born April 8, 1938 to Rose Mae Sack and Charles “Buster” Vermillion in Kenel, South Dakota. She was raised in Kenel by her parents and her grandmother Rose Pheasant, who was a special person in her life. Angeline attended Marty Indian Mission Boarding School in Marty, South Dakota where she entered the Catholic faith and learned how to sew, cook, and be a home maker. In between sessions she would often spend time with her grandmother who she often cared for while not in school.
In 1956, Angeline met her one and only true love, Robert Montclair and they married on March 3rd, 1957 and began their family in Kenel. In 1979, Angeline and Robert moved to Fort Yates on the North Dakota side of Standing Rock, in the home that she lived her remaining years. Together they raised 12 children in faith in the Catholic Church.
Angeline spent her days caring for her family and home. She was a talented at cross stitch embroidery and would often gift her creations to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed music, movies, and reading. She enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friends as they would gather and keep each other company over the years.
Angeline survived by her children Floyd Montclair Sr. and family, John Montclair (Dr. Tomi Kay Phillips), Roberta (Terry) Johnson, Barbara (Aaron) Lee, Jane (Randy) Grant, Robert (Tammy) Montclair, Lawrence Montclair (Dawnette Azure), Angel (Justin) Young, Christine (David) Tuttle, Christopher Montclair, Colette Montclair (Delia Demontiney), and Nicole (John) Donaghy; Sisters Alvina “Beana” Martin and Samantha “Augee” Martin; cousins Duane Vermillion and Anthony “Sponge” Vermillion; sister-in-law Jane Vermillion and family; and her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rose Mae Sack, Charles Vermillion, her loving husband Robert Montclair Sr., her brothers Sylvester, Timmy, and Stanley Vermillion, Edward, Tony, and David Martin, sister Janice Martin, sister Amy Nadeau, aunts Edna Vermillion and Gertrude Bad Wound, aunt Theresa Martin, aunt Alma Little Bear, uncles Bill, Frank, and Jerome Vermillion, daughter-in-law Kami (Krueger) Montclair, best friends Effie Antell, Arlene Hodgekiss, Maxine White Bull, Ursula Crow Skin, Agatha Good Iron, and Germaine Demery.
The Montclair family sends a heartfelt thank you to the Nurses and CNA’s of Unit 1 at Sunset Prospera, Bobbi Jo Harrison, and special granddaughter (CNA) Ashleigh Tuttle for the care and love that they showed our Mom and Grandma. Thank you to Post 324 from Rock Creek, Mao Wilson, Father John Paul Gardner, and all of her many friends. Our world will not be the same without our beautiful mother, but we know she was welcomed by our Dad and everyone she has missed over the years.
