The South Dakota Department of Transportation wants the public to name 12 of its snowplows.
Interim Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt says the first ever “Name the Snowplow Contest” is designed to engage people across the state with the SDDOT in a fun way. He encourages South Dakotans of all ages to enter imaginative snowplow names to honor the state’s history, traditions and love of snow.
The Name the Snowplow contest is open through January 31, 2021. Entries can be submitted on the SDDOT website at https://dot.sd.gov/contest. Once the contest closes to the public, SDDOT employees will vote on their favorite names. The SDDOT will announce one officially named snowplow within each of the 12 SDDOT areas across the state.
Jundt says South Dakota drivers understand winter road conditions can vary mile by mile (minute by minute) during winter weather. He says snowplow drivers play a key role in keeping travelers safe.
