The Howard Wood Dakota Relays concluded over the weekend, and we’ve got all the results for you here. The Howard Wood is one of the Midwest’s most prestigious events as it sees only the top talent compete. The meet is held in Sioux Falls, and runners get to test their skills against the best in front of packed crowds. Each year, they hold a ‘Special Event’ which was the women’s 200-meter dash this year. To compete in the special event, you must be nominated and selected like Pierre’s Kali Ringstmeyer. Ringstmeyer would finish fifth with a time of 24.72. It also holds events for Special Olympics athletes, and one of Pierre’s own won that 100-meter dash event outright. Kaden Cumbow of Pierre ran a 13.74 to take first place in the race, finishing ahead of Skyler Hirschkorn by a few tenths of a second.
The Howard Wood saw many schools from the Central South Dakota area competing including Chamberlain, Mitchell, Pierre, Stanley County and others. It is truly an honor just to compete in the Howard Wood, but to take home a medal is even more rewarding for the athletes.
