The initial investigation into last Thursday’s (Jan. 14, 2021) fire at the Edgewater Apartments complex in Pierre is complete.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says “preliminary findings do not lead investigators to believe the fire origin was criminal.” A source will not be released at this time, as further investigation is on-going by the various insurance companies representing those who incurred loss due to the fire.
The investigation was conducted by the Pierre Police and Fire Departments, with the assistance of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office.
People were living in 34 of the 38 units in the Edgewater building that burned. Individuals displaced by the fire should first contact the Red Cross to establish your case management file for support and services. Call the Red Cross at 1-844-29-CROSS. Pierre Area Referral Services will help connect families in need with additional local services. Call PARS at 605-224-8731.
