The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is changing the way it operates checkpoints along state and federal roads leading through the reservation.
The tribe closed it’s borders last year as a way to reduce the risk of its members being exposed to COVID-19 from outside travelers.
In a letter to entities operating the checkpoints, Tribal chairman Harold Frazier said after consulting with medical professionals and the Public Health Task Force, and due to the availability of COVID-19 vaccines, as of yesterday (Feb. 23, 2021) morning, and until further notice, the operation of the CRST Health and Safety Checkpoints will be modified. He says checkpoint deputies will “allow all vehicles to enter the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation regardless of the travelers’ residency or purpose of travel,” but they will still need to complete and submit a COVID-19 Travel Form for all vehicles.
