Pierre advanced to the championship of the Class A Dual Tournament with wins over Mitchell and Brandon Valley on Thursday.
In the quarterfinal round, the Governors avenged a loss to Mitchell in the last dual of the regular season by beating the Kernels, 38-19. Pierre then tied Brandon Valley in a semifinal dual at 34, but the Governors won the tiebreaker based on an unsportsmanlike penalty on Brandon Valley.
Pierre will meet Rapid City Stevens for the Class A Dual championship Friday at 6:00 CT.
