Earl Frank, 84, Java, SD, died Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.
Earl Floyd Frank, son of Lydia (Krause) and William P. Frank, was born August 16, 1936 at Java. He was raised and educated in Java, graduating with the JHS Class of 1954. He then went on to Northern State Teacher’s College, Aberdeen, SD, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Ed. Earl served his country in the United States Air Force, being inducted in 1959. He married Maurene Haux at San Angelo, TX on April. 10, 1966. Earl also earned his ME Degree in Secondary Education from South Dakota State University in Brookings. He retired from the USAF on December 31, 1980 and he and his family settled on a farm near Java. In retirement, Earl drove bus for the Java and Selby Schools and did some farming. Earl was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java, belonged to the LaVern Bauer American Legion Post No. 275, Java, the Eureka VFW Post #5126, the Java Community Club, and was currently a member of Frederick Schauer American Legion Post No. 100, Selby. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, reading, and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Earl is survived by Maurene, his wife of 54 years; two sons, Douglas (Traci) Frank of Selby, SD and David Frank of Mandan, ND; one brother, Curtis (Betty) Frank, of Coos Bay, OR; three grandchildren, Logan (Emily) Frank of Harrisburg, SD, Spencer (Kelsey Hovorka) Frank of Selby, and McKenzie (Bryton) Perman of Omaha, NE; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William, on April 9, 1972; his mother, Lydia, on April 19, 1990; and two brothers.
Earl’s funeral will be livestreamed on the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page and be available Sunday night at this website.
Earl’s funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Good Friday, April 2, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Mary Lou Gruebele. Burial, with military rites by the Frederick Schauer American Legion Post No. 100, Selby, SD, follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Carol Fiedler and the congregation will sing “One Day at a Time”, “What a Friend we have in Jesus”, and “Amazing Grace”. Ushers will be Carlyle Bieber and Dan Biel.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Lien Funeral Chapel, Selby.
Honorary bearers will be Earl’s great-grandchildren, Huxley and Sutton Perman, and Boston Frank.
Casketbearers will be LeRoy Sandmeier and Dwight Helm of Java; John “Archie” Neumann of Loretto, MN; Bryton Perman of Omaha.; and Grandsons Logan and Spencer.
Services are in care of Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle.
