Larry Dean Wilcox, age 83, of Onida, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Avantara, Pierre, South Dakota. He passed away peacefully and is now with our heavenly father.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the Agar Hall, Agar, SD, with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating.
Larry Dean Wilcox was born on July 23, 1937 in Pierre, South Dakota to Clayton and Gladys (Ripley) Wilcox. Larry was the middle child with an older sister, Beverly, and a younger sister, Judy. He married his beloved wife Karen in 1985. Larry loved following Carrie’s and Aaron’s school activities. They lived and worked together on the family farm for many years, eventually moving to Onida upon his retirement. In retirement, Larry and Karen enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially their children and grandchildren in Iowa and Georgia.
Larry was raised on the homestead farm in western Sully County and became an exceptional steward of the land. He dedicated his life to making the farm the best it could be and he succeeded. He enjoyed watching the crops and animals grow including the wildlife on the farm. As a life-long resident of Sully County, everyone knew him. He was known to his family and friends as a conscientious, loyal, honest and generous person and a good neighbor. If you needed help, he would be there to pitch in… Larry was a living library of humorous farm jokes and when he visited invariably, he would say…Hey, did you hear the one about…
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and, by one week, his loving wife, Karen. He is survived by daughter Carrie (Comer) Mitzel (Brad); son, Aaron Comer (DeAnna); seven grandchildren: Brandon Mitzel (Kendal), Cailan Comer, Hope (Mitzel) Porter (Jesse), Sofie Comer, Ashlyn Lamb, Avery Lamb and Maria Mitzel. He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Peters (Dwight) and Judy Schuette (Jim); and five nephews and nieces: Jeff Peters, Paula Peters (Kim Nixon), Peggy Schuette, Sheri Schuette and Jerry Schuette (Kathy).
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Larry’s arrangements.
