On February 20, 1995, Wesley Verne Noisy Hawk was born to Celby L. Noisy Hawk Jr. and Linda Howard in Rapid
City, South Dakota. He was the oldest of four children: himself, Talia, Gene and Tyra Noisy Hawk. He was named after
his grandfathers, Wesley High Elk and Verne Howard. His nickname from many family members would be "Bopo" for
the chubby cheeks he had as a newborn. Wesley was a great, big brother who would joke around and tease his siblings
like any older brother would. He would go to the YMCA along with his dad and brother, Gene, and shoot hoops. He
would also join his dad in basketball games with the adults and went to his tournament games to cheer him on. Wes was
very competitive with his siblings and pushed them to be better. His favorite things to do as a child were play tag with
anyone and everyone, play kick ball in his grandparents’ back yard, adventure into Laframboise Island, and spend all day
at the library on the computers.
Growing up, Wesley attended various schools in both Pierre/Ft. Pierre area as well as Eagle Butte, and he received his
diploma at the Eagle Center in 2014. After receiving his diploma, he attended college at the Oglala Lakota College in
Eagle Butte. There he helped other students understand some of the curriculum. He spent part of his teen years living with
his aunt Joy Howard and then with Leslie Morrison Veit. Wesley had many friends along with his best friend Caleb High
Bear whom he did everything with. He enjoyed meeting new people, playing basketball, walking around town, and
attending cultural activities. He was a strong believer in traditional ways and helped when he could, wherever he could.
He was always respectful and had a smile along with a contagious laugh that could light up any room.
After living in Eagle Butte, Wesley moved back to Pierre where he married Megan Morrison on April 16, 2019. To this
union two beautiful children were born, Zuko James and Azula Mae Noisy Hawk. Since then, they’ve been the joy of his
life, and his world revolved around them. He enjoyed working to provide for his children whom he cherished dearly. He
was a proud father. No matter the situation he always made time to call, or video chat his kids and wanted nothing but the
best for them.
During his days off or even after work seeing his siblings was a must, as they all lived in the same city. He would also
travel back home to Eagle Butte to visit relatives. He loved to surprise his grandparents, Selby and Irma, to spend time
with them. Family was always a big deal for him. He made sure he got to see as many of his cousins as he could before he
left town. There was never a dull moment in his presence. Through his ups and downs he knew he could always depend
on them to help lift him back up.
As blessed as he already was, he became a “godfather” to one of his many nieces, Arian Louise. He was a very good
uncle. Each and every one of his nieces and one nephew, and older and younger cousins, were loved equally. He takes his
memories of them all with him, just as he left memories of him with them. He had many mother and father figures in his
life and appreciated everything they have done to help shape him into the young man that he was.
Wesley is survived by his grandparents: Selby Noisy Hawk Sr. and Irma Takes The Gun, Rose (Bill) Yellow, Diane
(Donovan) Pretty Weasel, Byron (Carol) Red Bird, Steve (Candace) Scares the Hawk, and Marjorie Scares the Hawk.
He is preceded in death by uncles: Mardell Noisy Hawk, Terry Noisy Hawk, and John Howard; niece, Niylah Condon;
grandparents: Wesley High Elk, Verne Howard, Jaunita Logg, Gene Howard Sr., Jean Takes The Gun, and Jason Eagle
Chasing.
