Veryl Dale Huisman, 72, of Pierre, SD, died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre SD. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 20th at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre with a viewing one hour prior to the services. There will be a second service held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 21st at the Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Center IA with a viewing one hour prior to the services and burial at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Veryl was born on December 12, 1948, to Wilber and Tena (Dykstra) Huisman in Le Mars, IA. He grew up at Sioux Center, IA, and graduated from Sioux Center Public High School. Veryl worked for the Hughes County Highway Department for 21 years.
Veryl married Patricia on May 31, 1995, in Pierre. They are members of Faith Lutheran Church where he has served as usher captain and on the board of trustees. He was a man of strong faith and was always available to help the elderly. He loved golfing and fishing and was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Twins fan.
Veryl is survived by his wife Patricia (Deets) Huisman, stepchildren: Kurt (Elissa) Wiegert of Denver, CO, and Anette Deets of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren: Jake, Zach and Sophie. He is also survived by six siblings, Diane (Lyle) Van Roekel of Sioux Center, IA, Bob (Ann) Huisman of Corona, CA, Jean (Kenny) Hisman Vos of Sioux Center, IA, Deb (Mike) Melvin of Westminster, CO, Mary Bomgaars of Sioux Center, IA, Carol (Phil) Traczyk of Sioux Center, IA, as well as special children: Michael, Anne, Emily, Thomas and Peter. He was also survived by special friends Jamey, Cindy, Alyssa, Jacey and Milaina Ledema, and many nieces and nephews.
Veryl was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Tena Huisman; his mother & father in-laws Ernest & Florence Deets. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Dave and Jerry and three brothers-in-law Norman Bomgaars, Roger Deets and Duane Zautke.
Memorials will be directed to Faith Lutheran Church and a golf related memorial to be used in the community of Pierre.
