Beverly was born December 30, 1928, to Erwin and Irene (Mowry) Metz, on a farm near Miranda, South Dakota. She attended Ross School near her home, and then graduated from Faulkton High School in 1946.
Bev married Lawrence “Lefty” Brewer on July 7, 1947. To this union two children were born, Gary L. Brewer and Janice L. Brewer. Bev and Lefty celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007, in the same house they raised their children and retired.
Bev had a long career working at the bank in Faulkton from 1947 – 1949 and 1964 – 1986 and knew almost everyone in the community. Bev had a passion for community and family histories and studied genealogy of the immediate family long before the internet. Bev also became a very skilled calligrapher and made beautiful art and Christmas cards for many years. Bev also enjoyed ceramics. Bev was proud to be part of the Faulkton Historical Society and was president when the Society received the Pickler Mansion. She enjoyed participating in the restoration of the Pickler Mansion and gave many tours of the mansion over the years. Bev went on her “dream trip” when she went to Europe as a chaperone with the Faulkton Jazz Band in 1983.
Beverly was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, United Church of Faulkton, and the Faulk County Historical Society. Bev was a generous and loving host of family over years of holidays and pheasant hunting seasons. Bev and Lefty drove many miles to visit their kids and to support and watch Boone, Bucky, and Brandon play baseball and Brianna play softball. Bev resided in loving care at the Faulkton Senior Living for the past several years.
Beverly is survived by son, Gary (Karen) of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Jan of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Boone (Kara, Tasha) Brewer, Buckley (Kim) Brewer, Brandon, and Brianna (David) Hamilton; six great-grandchildren; sister, Marge (Tom) Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
She was preceded in death by infant twin siblings; her parents; husband, Lefty; and sister and brother-in-law, Corrine and Melvin Anderson.
