Boyd Naasz, 63, of Mobridge, SD passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16th, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis surrounded by his family.
Boyd Todd Naasz was born September 17, 1957, in Mobridge, SD, to Calvin and Darlene Naasz. He grew up in McLaughlin, SD, where he graduated high school in 1976. Boyd’s former elementary teachers like to remind his children about the many days their dad would be late to school even though he lived just on the corner of the playground. He would regularly blame his tardiness on the snow piles he HAD to climb along the way. Now we know where his grandchildren get it from.
Following graduation, Boyd went to college in Wahpeton, ND where he played football and received an associate’s degree in Automotive Technology. After college, Boyd returned to Mobridge, SD where he began working for Davidson’s Chevrolet. On August 1, 1984, Boyd began working for the City of Mobridge where he later took on the role as Water Plant Manager until his passing.
If there were one word to describe Boyd, it would be dedicated. He was dedicated to his job for many years but more importantly his family. Boyd joined hands in marriage to his wife Alicia on September 12, 1981 in Glenham, SD. The two of them share three children, Nicole, Todd, and Gina. Boyd thrived when taking his children on family trips and attending their school events. There was never a summer where he wouldn’t be seen at the swimming pool with his children, nieces, and nephews somehow convincing them all to attempt the high dive. In the winters, he was notorious for building the best snowmen and snow dogs, and rounding his kids up to find the biggest hill for sled riding.
There was nothing he enjoyed more than being a grandfather to his two grandchildren, Brylee and Mason. They will cherish all the memories they spent doing grandpa’s favorite hobby, fishing on Lake Oahe. From sun up, to sun down, one could find Boyd on the river fishing in his boat. His favorite place on Earth.
Boyd is survived by his wife Alicia of 39 years; 3 children, Nicole (Jason) Dallman of Mobridge, Todd Naasz of Mobridge, Gina (Dan) Perman of Glenham; 2 grandchildren, Brylee and Mason; his beloved Yorkie, Zeba; his mother Darlene Naasz of Mobridge; 2 brothers Dan and Clyde Naasz, both of Mobridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Naasz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 20th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be available one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at the Glenham Cemetery.
