Funeral services for Marilyn (Brown Wolf) Satala, 71, of Arizona will be at 10 AM, Thursday, September 2, 2021, at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at the Frazier Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Family and friends will meet at the 4 mile junction at 4 PM, Wednesday, with services at 7 PM at the church. Marilyn passed away on August 23, 2021 in Chandler, AZ.
Marilyn Joyce Brown Wolf-Satala, born on August 7, 1950 entered the Spirit World on August 23, 2021. She was preceded in her journey to the Spirit World by her husband Taylor Satala; father Rodney Brown Wolf; mother Cherolyn Eagle-Brown Wolf; three younger sisters Delima Ann Brown Wolf, Gwendolen Rhoda Brown Wolf and Melodie Belinda Brown Wolf; and two younger brothers Quentin Gerald Brown Wolf, and infant brother Rodney Eldon Brown Wolf.
Marilyn is survived by her younger brother William Omar Brown Wolf; two children she raised as her own, Brittney Brown Wolf- Rodriguez and Ferrin Brown Wolf; six nieces; and six nephews. The grandchildren she loved with all her heart include eleven grandsons, eight granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
Marilyn was a descendant of Ghost Horse, who gave his life protecting and defending his family and others, during the tragic Wounded Knee Massacre.
Marilyn left her home on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation and studied to become an LPN. Her education eventually led her to the Hopi people of northeastern Arizona where she met and married Taylor Satala. She was accepted by the Hopi people as one of their own, and from the Hopi people she has additional family that includes numerous grandchildren, nieces & nephews, and in-laws.
Throughout her life, Marilyn has lovingly touched many people’s lives and she has earned their highest respect and love. She has become the role model for both of her South Dakota and Arizona families and she serves as a reminder and example of what dedication to family and unconditional love for one another embodies. Her family and friends are stronger and blessed by the life she has lived.
