A 55-year-old Pierre man must be on supervised probation, among other stipulations, after being sentenced for DUI, 4th Offense (Class 5 felony) yesterday (Tues.) in Stanley County Court. States Attorney Tom Maher says in June of this year, James Edwards was found behind the wheel of his motor vehicle in the parking lot of a local store. He had a blood alcohol level of .184 percent. Edwards had prior convictions for DUI in Hughes County in 2012, 2013, 2016 and another DUI conviction outside the ten year look back period. A five year prison sentence was suspended on the conditions that Edwards serve 60 days in jail, pay a $1,000 fine and successfully complete the supervised probation term. Edwards driver’s license was also revoked for two years.
A judge suspended prison time for a 23-year-old Rapid City man charged in Stanley County Court with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 5 felony). The State’s Attorney’s Office reports James Rhoades was arrested for possession of THC-wax, marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop in July. Rhoades’ three year prison term was suspended on the condition that he successfully complete three years of supervised probation, serve 30 days in jail and among other conditions.
A 27-year-old Pierre man has pled guilty to Possession of Methampehtamine (class 5 felony) and Possession of Marijuana (Class 1 misdemeanor) in Stanley County Court. States Attorney Tom Maher says the charges against Cole Regynski stemmed from Regynski’s arrest by the Stanley County sheriff in August 2018. Regynski was stopped because of outstanding warrants from Butte County. He fled on foot, but with assistance from Pierre Police officers, Regynski was apprehended nearby. Officers found 2½ grams of methamphetamine and ¼ oz. marijuana inside his backpack. Regynski’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.
A 41-year-old Rosebud, SD, man pled guilty to Identity Theft (Class 6 felony) yesterday (Tues.) in Stanley County Court. The county States Attorney’s Office reports Waylon Nelson Marshall was stopped at a local church asking for assistance. During the visit, Marshall stole a victim’s checkbook from the church office. He and a co-defendant then drove to Pierre and charged about $500 on the victim’s credit card. Marshall was arrested by officers of the Martin Police Department, in possession of the victim’s checkbook, its contents and other contraband. Sentencing is set for Nov. 6.
