Bobbie Jacobs, 61, died Thursday, October 7, 2021, surrounded by her family at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 13th beginning at 6:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm and an all-night wake at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pierre, SD. Her funeral service will be Thursday, October 14th at 11:00am at the church, with interment to follow at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre, SD.
Bobbie was born to Lloyd James and Dorothy Marie (O’Day) Langdeau on December 13, 1959. She grew up on the family ranch near Lower Brule. She attended school in Kennebec and Presho.
Most importantly, Bobbie was a mother and grandmother. Additionally, she did many things in her life. Bobbie loved animals, especially her dogs, Kong and Meesha. She ranched for 20 plus years and was active in rodeo as early as age 4. She was the secretary for the Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association, co-founded the Crazy Horse Annual Rodeo and she worked to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day in 2015.
Bobbie attended college at Chadron State University and then earned her bachelor’s degree from Black Hills State University. She was an Instructor at Oglala Lakota College and Presentation College. She earned her Master of Social Work from Washington University in Saint Louis. Through the years Bobbie worked for Casey Family Programs, the IHS, Great Plains Tribal Chairman’s Association and founded her own company, New Direction Counseling in Sioux Falls. Bobbie won The Humanitarian Award in 2014 for her dedication to high-risk adolescents and adults as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award for Counseling in 2019.
Bobbie will be remembered by her family, colleagues, and clients as a trailblazer. She will be admired for her strong will and independence and appreciated for her sometimes unconventional but always loving ways.
Bobbie is survived by her husband Roosevelt Chapman, her children: Yvonne Marie Ferrara (Stefan), Thomas Coy Jacobs (Sarah Phipps), William Tell Jacobs (Tara Fredericks), Trevor Francis Jacobs (Jazmine GoodIron), Bruce “Boo” Jacobs, Taylor Rae Jacobs and Mary Kate Dennis (hunka), her 11 grandchildren: Wesley Lloyd Jacobs, Rylan James Pearman, Adrian Bradley GoodIron, Samantha Angelina Marie Ferrara, Mataya Rose Jacobs, Payden Austin Jacobs, Teyton Dean Backwards, Tayshaun Prince Jacobs, Rozin Nash Jacobs, Laraya Love Kiewel and Jerelle Daniel Long Soldier Jr. Bobbie is also survived by her siblings Linda Jo Langdeau, Lloyd James Langdeau and John Robert Langdeau.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Jolene Marie Langdeau.
