Frances was born on May 29, 1922, to Peter and Rosena (Sahli) Kraft on a farm 9 miles north of Bowdle SD. At the age of 3 she moved to Trail City with her family. She attended the Red Top School through the 8th grade. After grade school she stayed at home to help raise her brothers and sisters and did various jobs for friends and neighbors.
Frances married Valentine Holzer on February 23, 1943, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City, SD. After their marriage they lived at the John Holzer farm north of Trail City for a short period of time. They bought the Glencross Post Office building and moved it to a farm 4 miles north of Trail City and farmed there until they moved to Roscoe SD in 1956 to pursue a junk yard business. In March of 1958 the junk yard business was moved to McLaughlin SD. Our family lived in McLaughlin until the fall of 1958 when the decision was made to move back to Trail City to milk cows and farm land located six miles north of Trail City. After retirement, they moved to Mobridge in May of 1983.
Frances was the strength and rock of our family. She was always optimistic and looked forward to the spring when it was time to plant flowers and the garden. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Altar Society, St Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society and volunteered with activities at the Mobridge Care Center. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, cooking for her family, sharing recipes, and spending time with her family.
