Delton F. Beck, 85, of Ree Heights, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Highmore Health in Highmore.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2021, at the Ree Heights Auditorium, with burial to follow at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 2021, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the Ree Heights Auditorium.
Delton was the second child of Howard and Grace (Williams) Beck, born on July 7,1936 on the Beck farm northwest of Ree Heights. In 1944, their family moved into Ree Heights. Delton attended all his years of school at the Ree Heights School, graduating in 1954.
Delton drove trucks and tractors from a very young age, as his parents owned and operated Beck Trucking. Following high school, Delton continued driving semi-truck for Beck Trucking, along with building windmills around the countryside. In 1954, Delton started working part time setting up equipment for the Ree Heights Implement. In 1959, Delton began working full time for the Implement store becoming their mechanic. Delton mainly worked on International Harvester tractors. He worked for the Ree Heights Implement for 42 years before purchasing the shop in 1996, at which time he started Beck’s Repair. Delton continued to work on tractors, trucks, washing machines, dryers, and international mower heads. Delton enjoyed his work; he never did retire; it was his health that slowed him down until he couldn’t do it any longer. Delton was active in the Ree Heights Fire Department for 62 years, as well as being active on the town board and working for the town for many years. Delton enjoyed getting together with his family having campfires, making homemade ice cream with his children and grandchildren (this was a favorite), hunting, fishing, camping, sawing wood, trains, and playing guitar.
On October 13, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carole Simons, To this union, four children made Delton’s family.
He is survived by his wife, Carole of 59 years; children: Anita Beck, Spokane, WA, Marjorie (Margie) (Jeff) Parmely, Miller, SD, Jared (Laura) Beck, Huron, SD, and Holly (Allen) Schaefers, Clear Lake, SD; grandchildren: Zachary Schmidt, Spokane, WA, Kristi Schmidt Liberty Lake, WA, Tara Parmely (fiancé, Brad Bierman), St Lawrence, SD, Trevor Parmely Lincoln, NE, and Noah, Jonah and Lydia Beck, Huron, SD.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Howard (1974) and Grace (1978); two sisters: Ellen Jones (2005) and Betty Fink (2017); and one brother, Dean Beck (2005), one niece, Michele Fink; and one nephew, Dayle Jones.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Delton’s arrangements.
