There will be some new and some familiar faces taking part in tomorrow’s (Sat.) inaugural activities in Pierre.
One of the familiar faces will actually be about 20 faces– the members of the Over Forte band who will provide the music for the Capitol Ball.
Founder Larry Johnson says tomorrow will be the sixth inauguration in a row the group has played for.
Johnson says their music covers an array of genres.
The band members are all from the Pierre and Fort Pierre areas and come from a variety of backgrounds.
The Capitol Ball, featuring the Over Forte band, begins at 6:30pm at the State Capitol, with the Grand March at 7pm. The Inaugural Ball, featuring the 147th Army Band, South Dakota National Guard, begins at 8pm at the Ramkota River Centre. The Grand March there begins at 9pm. Tickets are required for both balls and cost $25 per person. There will be a free shuttle service going between the two balls from 6pm-2am. The shuttle will stop at the north doors of the Capitol and the main doors of the Ramkota.
Tickets for both the Capitol and Inaugural Balls are available online at pierretickets.com, by calling 1.800.962. 2034 during normal business hours or at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce (800 W. Dakota Ave.).
Oath of Office Ceremonies for legislators begin at 11am CST in their respective chambers at the State Capitol. The Oath of Office Ceremony for the Governor-elect and other elected state officials begins at noon in the State Capitol Rotunda. All Oath of Office Ceremonies are free and open to the public.
