Mass of Christian Burial for Lamarr Paul Avery age 70 of Eagle Butte, South Dakota will be at 10:00 AM, MT on Thursday, November 4th, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Fr. John Paul Trask will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Cemetery in White Horse, South Dakota under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. There will be visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 PM, MT until 10:00 PM, MT at the Church in Eagle Butte. Mr. Lamarr Paul Avery passed away on October 27, 2021, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
LaMarr Paul Avery, šuŋgwatógla (Wild Horse) was born September 29, 1951 to Margaret Rousseau and Charles Avery at Old Cheyenne Agency. LaMarr graduated from Moses Lake High School, Moses Lake, WA. LaMarr loved life and never met a stranger, he loved to fish and travel. He had a good heart.
LaMarr and Rosalita Roach raised their children in the Red Scaffold Community. LaMarr was a Master Gardener and a animal lover and many of his jobs were related to animals. He was a longtime Ranch Hand from 1960-1996, always out fencing, feeding cattle, and other outdoor ranch activities. LaMarr cooked for the Big Foot Ride for 12 years and took care of the Cheyenne River Buffalo Herd. He enjoyed sharing his traditional knowledge with the youth whether that was making bows or working with hides.
LaMarr walked on to the happy hunting grounds on October 27, 2021 from the Cheyenne River Health Center and is preceded in death by his loving mother, Margaret Rousseau, father Charles Avery, and brother Rocky Avery.
He is survived by his sisters, Colleen Momner, UnaLee (Don) Howe, Muretta Hayes, Becky Avery, and his brothers, Art Avery, Allen (Linda) Avery, Leon (Cynthia) Avery, Laddie Avery. His children Jamie (Cynthia) Roach, Medina (Jason) Matonis, Ann (Raphael) Lopez, Orlando Avery, granddaughters:, Shania Goodhue, Jamie Kelly Roach, Pamela Roach, Cameo Roach, Ilyana(Guilson) Godinez, Kateri Matonis. Grandsons; Justin Matonis, and Nairo Lopez. Great-grandchildren; Kyla, Trent, Angel, Laila, Payden, Madisyn, Kamialee, Katara, Bramm, Bazylia, Johnny, Lillian, Allison, Jillian, Charles, Cole Bariah, Freya, and one more yet to arrive. His many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
