Mike Mehrer, 78, of Ft. Pierre died on Tuesday, October 26th at Avantara in Redfield SD. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4th at 2:00pm at Isburg Funeral Chapel.
Mike Mehrer was born on October 16th 1943 in Highmore, South Dakota to Richard and Olivia (Heckenliable) Mehrer. Mike grew up in Highmore and later in the Onida and the Pierre and Fort Pierre area. He attended school and graduated from Fort Pierre High School. After graduation Mike made his home in Ft. Pierre where he was in business as a mason for over 50 years. Mike took pride in his German work ethic and was well known in the Pierre and Ft. Pierre area for his quality masonry work, a skill he learned and perfected from Dick Mackey and the M&W Masonry out of Mitchell.
He loved his dogs even though he didn’t have any children of his own, his dogs were like his children. He could always be seen with one of his dogs nearby and he would spoil them to no end. He collected horse statues and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by two brothers Gary and Larry. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gail, and sisters Susie and Karen.
