Joseph Bowar, 93, of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.
A wake and rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Lambert Catholic Church, 1000 S. Bahnson Ave, Sioux Falls, with Deacon Thomas Rausch presiding.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, Faulkton, with Fr. Randy Phillips presiding. A rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Joseph A. Bowar, Jr. was born October 26, 1928 in Faulkton, SD to Joseph A. and Angeline (Kellen) Bowar. Joe attended SDSU after graduating from Faulkton High School in 1946.
Joe entered the Marine Corp in 1953 and received the “Sharpshooter” medal before receiving an honorable discharge in 1955.
He was married to Gladys Corinne Rusch. They made their home in Faulkton where they raised their six children. Joe worked hard farming and ranching his father’s farm.
Joe was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus, holding many different offices. He also served as a county commissioner for several years.
Joe was survived by his wife Gladys Corinne (Rusch) of 67 years; daughter: Carol (Bill) Koch of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Tony (Meghan) Koch and Lisa Koch; daughter: Jane (Doug) Kading of Rapid City, SD and their children, Benjamin (Lacy) Kading and Jonathan (Jessica) Kading; son: Greg (Rachel) Bowar of Chaska, MN and their children Jordan (Sumer) Bowar, Justin Bowar, and Jack Bowar; daughter: Eileen (Rich) Prince of Harrisburg, SD and his children: Amanda, Tori, and Taylor Prince; son: Dale (deceased) Diana Bowar of Bellevue, WA and their children, Ashley, Nick, and Sara Bowar; daughter: Laura (Randall) Kidwell of Crossville, TN and their son Jared Kidwell; and nine great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale; one great grandchild; and 10 siblings.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Joe’s arrangements.
