Jack Jones, 87, of Faulkton, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Faulkton Area Medical Center.
Private family services will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Burial will be in the Faulkton Cemetery.
John Edward Jones was born November 15, 1933 in Canova, SD to John Humphrey and Rosa Christina (Hansen) Jones. He lived on a farm with his parents and grandparents near Winfred, SD and also attended school there. In 1946, the family moved to a ranch north of Highmore. There Jack finished grade school and attended Highmore High School.
In 1952, the family moved to a farm south of Seneca. Jack started flying lessons and soloed at the age of 16. In 1956, he earned his commercial pilot’s license and went to work for Nauman Spray Service out of Gettysburg as an Ag pilot. In 1958, Jack moved to Faulkton and went to work for (Delmar) Dieter’s Spray Service and then in 1959, along with his brothers, started their own service. In 1960, together they bought out Brewer Spray Service in Faulkton. Jack was part of the South Dakota Air National Guard/Air Force Reserve, serving as an aircraft mechanic. He was discharged from his service in 1961. In 1964 he started an over-the-road trucking business.
On April 19, 1960, Jack was united in marriage to Sharon Jean Seidschlaw in Faulkton. Together they operated the aerial spraying/trucking business for 57 years. Jack flew his spray plane, spraying crops until the age of 81. He earned several ratings over the years of ASMEL, CFII, FAA mechanic, and A & I. He accumulated over 32,000 flight hours.
He was a member of the United Church of Faulkton.
Jack’s life will be cherished by his wife of 61 years, Sharon; children: Pam (Scott) Hammond, Appleton, WI and Tami Jones, Faulkton, SD; brother, Daniel (Maylou) Jones, Rochester, MN; sister, Carol Foulk, Richmond, VA; granddaughter, Angela Agosta (Joseph Becker), Kaukauna, WI and grandson, Tyler (Rebekah) Hammond, Hobart, WI; great grandsons: Henry and Lucas Agosta, Kaukauna, WI and Wesley Hammond, Hobart, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Kathryn Jones and Dorothy Lawver; brother, Donald Jones; mother and father-in-law: Evangeline and Milton Seidschlaw; brothers-in-law: Dan Foulk, Loren Seidschlaw, and Dale Lawver; sister-in-law, Barbara Jones; and great grandchildren (infants): Evelyn, Emma, and Matthew Agosta.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Jack’s arrangements.
