According to AAA, the national gas price average is $2.29 per gallon– eight cents more expensive than last week, 12 cents more expensive than last month, but 12 cents cheaper than a year ago.
The average price in South Dakota is $2.26 per gallon– six cents more than a week ago, 11 cents more than a month ago, but 30 cents cheaper than a year ago.
AAA South Dakota spokesperson Marilyn Buskohl says on average, gas prices this year are 11 percent cheaper than the first two months of 2018. She says even though pump prices are on the rise, the increase has been countered by mostly decreasing demand, leading to the majority of people still paying less than $2.50 per gallon.
The nation’s least expensive markets are: Mississippi ($2.10), Alabama and Louisiana ($2.12) and Arkansas and Missouri ($2.13).
